We are in the thick of it now! Hanukkah just finished and we are just a few days before Christmas. As much as we all enjoy the holiday season, for most of us our stress levels increase…. Shopping, baking, traffic, planning, all adds up to a lot of extra tasks on our to-do lists.
For the 90% of the population that carries the alphaherpes virus which includes HSV-1, HSV-2, or herpes zoster virus this means an increased chance of an outbreak. Stress is the number one factor for waking up the virus and triggering an outbreak.
Keeping an outbreak away means paying attention to your body and the extra demands and following some simple guidelines. Since it is the holidays, we thought we would have a bit of fun with the normal “staying stress free tips”!
Enjoy a Long Winter’s Nap. Lack of sleep can be a trigger and during the holidays we tend to get off our schedules. If you are out partying away the holiday, just make sure you get a little extra sleep to make up for it.
Look Out for Frosty. Cold weather, dry weather, can trigger a cold sore. Be sure to use chap stick, and keep your mouth covered, and protected from frosty conditions.
Have a Cup of Cheer, Just Not Too Much. Who doesn’t enjoy a spiked holiday beverage, but too much can throw your body out of balance and wake up the cold sore virus. Moderation is key and always listen to your body.
Giddy up, Giddy up, Giddy up, let’s go. Give yourself plenty of time for travel. Roads and airports are packed with a lot of anxious travelers but you can help keep your travel stress down by given yourself more time than you normally need to help offset the extra traffic.
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet. The best holiday stress reliever is to have some fun! Sing some carols, dance, and spend time with friends are all great stress relievers. If you are taking care of yourself, balancing a healthy lifestyle, then everything else will fall into place.
And always remember.... relax, unwind, and enjoy the holidays!!!
